Un petit pas pour des Eurotrotters, un grand pas pour Jaccede !

Le voyage a commencé. Le train n’était peut-être pas le flamboyant modèle rouge dont rêvait David, mais le service a été décidément à la hauteur d’un voyage d’affaires. Le ton solennel de notre voyage a été marqué par le conducteur de taxi grec, Christou, qui nous a réservé un accueil somptueux sur les notes des hymnes européens. Bref, on est arrivés à l’hôtel.


Le Crowne Plaza Hotel, un Palace très ancien de Bruxelles avec le confort moderne situé, à quelques minutes du centre historique. Le premier point d’attache de notre escale en Belgique. Le personnel nous a accueilli d’une manière extrêmement cordiale et attentionnée.
Nous avons pu disposer d’un espace pour notre premier rendez-vous, avec Dominique Montagnese, Vice-président du réseau Erasmus Student Network (ESN). Ce réseau est très engagé dans la promotion de la mobilité des étudiants à mobilité réduite : actuellement, 0,2% seulement d’entre eux profitent des programmes d’échanges européens. Les actions menées par ESN visant à encourager la mobilité pour tous vont dans la même direction et dans le même état d’esprit que Jaccede. Nous verrons bientôt les fruits de cette rencontre !

Les Eurotrotters ont ensuite présenté les actions de Jaccede à Miguel Gerez de l’association AMT Concept dans le cabinet de la Ministre Evelyne Huytebroeck, Membre du Collège de la Commission communautaire française (COCOF), chargée de la Politique d’Aide aux Personnes Handicapées, représentée par Aurélie Herremans. Anne Monnom a aussi pris part à la réunion, qui a eu pour sujet principal l’organisation d’une Nuit de l’Accessibilité à Bruxelles.
De plus ils nous ont fait part de la journée LIBERCITY, qui aura lieu le 15 octobre 2013.
Dans l’après midi nous avons commencé la visite du centre ville sous une pluie battante. Mais seul les pavés divers et variés de la chaussée nous ont bien agacés.
Nous avons rencontré de nombreuses boutiques accessibles dont certaines ont mérité notre attention, pour les saisir sur l’application Jaccede mobile.

One small step for the Eurotrotters, one giant leap for Jaccede !
We’re up, up and away ! Our carriage might not have been the flamboyant red steam engine which David had dreamt about, but it was definitely apt for our business journey. We were accompanied during this first leg of our journey towards the East of Europe by an appropriate amount of pomp and circumstance : our Greek taxi driver, Christou, greeted us with an array of European national anthems. And then, finally, we arrived at our first destination : our hotel.
The Le Crowne Plaza Hotel is a grand old-fashioned palace with all modern mod-cons and luxurious touches, situated just a few minutes from the historical centre of Brussels. And it was, most importantly, our first pit-stop on our Belgian journey. We were greeted from the moment we arrived by the friendly, open and accommodating staff.
We were provided with a meeting room for our first face-to-face, with Dominique Montagnese, vice-president of the Erasmus Student Network (ESN). This network is committed to promoting and improving the mobility of all students with limited mobility and disabilities. As it stands, only 0.2% of students with a disability take part in European study exchanges (such as Erasmus). All that ESN does to encourage such mobility is on the same wavelength and has the same positive attitude as Jaccede. We’ll soon see how this meeting bears fruit !
We then presented Jaccede’s work to Miguel Gerez from AMT Concept, a Belgian organization, in the office of Evelyne Huytebroeck, Member of the College of the French Community Commission (COCOF), the Minister in charge of Assistance for people with Disabilities, who was represented in this meeting by Aurélie Herremans. Also present was Anne Monnom, who was primarily putting forward the plans for setting up an Accessibility Night in Brussels.

Those present also spoke to us about the upcoming LIBERCITY Day, which will be held on the 15th October 2013.
During the afternoon we set off to explore the centre of the city, rain beating down on us. But the only real impediments were the cobbles covering the city. They weren’t fun at all in combination with a wheelchair and the steady rain.
We managed to find quite a few accessible shops and businesses, which were definitely worthy of some time and attention and which we were able to add to the guide, welcome additions to Jaccede Mobile.
